I have always been artistic. From Playdough to crochet, there's no form of design I don't love. I was born and raised in and around St. Louis, Missouri where the art scene mainly consists of craft fairs and quilt shows. While I prefer clean lines and modern art, those rustic roots come through in my work.
My first "real" job was an internship at XG-ad, a boutique design and marketing agency in St. Louis whose bread and butter was Anheuser-Busch. The internship quickly turned into a full-time gig designing POS, POP, logos, tap handles, branded mirrors, bus and boat wraps, packaging and sales tools. InBev's purchase of A-B sadly lead to the downfall of many small agencies in St. Louis. I took the opportunity to move to New York City, a playground for creative minds and ambitious personalities.
Freelance kept my mind busy and the rent paid while I explored my new city. I held a job at a sign company in Brooklyn (for a minute) where I actually had to work on a PC and was forced to squish type beyond legibility. You have to do some dirty work to pave your way in this city! I then found myself in Union Square at a company focused on creating artwork for public spaces. While it was fun to spend my days playing with textures and brushes in Photoshop, I really missed the marketing and advertising aspect and started searching for "the dream."
An opportunity arose at Iconix Brand Group, a licensing company with over 30 brands in fashion, home, sports and entertainment. I took on a test project and blew it out of the water and and within a week the job was mine. From celebrities to towels, I loved it all. With such a small team, there was no aspect of the job I didn't touch, and everything we did was BIG. Within a month I had a billboard in Times Square. Little did I know, Iconix owned the billboard and it would be mine for the next 7 years, posted with each new campaign launch. Over the years, I grew from Designer to Creative Director taking on whatever challenge was thrown my way. I managed a small team of Designers and Art Directors focusing on fashion and home brands and launched about 30 campaigns per year while keeping the marketing fresh in between.
After 8 years in New York, I was ready for a change (and a little more elbow room). I relocated to Dallas, Texas and accepted a job at PartnerComm, Inc. Their portfolio of Fortune 500 clients is unmatched as they are one of the few companies in the nation to focus on internal communications. My day-to-day consists of branding wellness programs for Nestlé to designing websites for JetBlue. A few years and a pandemic later, I found myself back in New York. The freedom to work remote has allowed me to call wherever I want to be home. Who needs to move their elbows anyway?!
Throughout the years, I've never stepped out of the designer's chair. I still design, create, photograph, retouch, produce, order, bind, mount, write copy…no job is too small.
In my free time, I enjoy antique shopping, sewing, crocheting, cooking, wine, listening to my old record player and hanging out with my Frenchie, Tater Tot. Oh, and I can make a mean apple pie! Want to know more? Just ask!
